LG DP889 Portable Photo Frame and DVD Player

G DP889 Portable Photo Frame and DVD Player

Much like cell phones, GPS units, and just about every other electronic device under the sun, digital picture frames seem to snowball more and more features every month. While earlier tricks such as playing MP3s and displaying RSS feeds have been quaint, really useful features have been quite elusive.

LG takes one step closer to a truly useful and multifunctional LCD frame with its DP889 8-inch portable photo frame, which just doesn’t do static images – it does DVDs. At home, it’s a stationary centerpiece for photos, and on the road, it’s a portable entertainment system to stave off boredom and the snoring of the guy next to you.

Since not many people want to carry a wood-trimmed picture frame onto a plane, switch off Grandma and turn on Transformers, LG’s designers have done their best to make the DP889 fit in as both a picture frame and a portable DVD player. Its flat face and gloss-black bezel would look at home on an end table, but its rounded edges and smooth profile also give a comfy-to-hold look more common to PMPs. Most of the controls have been relocated to the side where they are less conspicuous, and its DVD player functionality has been disguised best of all – it cracks open down the middle to reveal the interior disc reader.

Wind Up Universal TV Remote

I usually end up sitting in front of my television either banging the control off of the couch or taking the back off of the remote and twisting the batteries around until they start working again. The latter seems to work quite a bit for some reason. Getting off of the couch to fetch some fresh batteries would just not be right. Too much energy. Now it looks like you don't have to anymore.

I have a wind up radio that would use a pile of power to operate and it lasts for about 10 minutes after winding her a good one. I can't imagine a remote using a ton of power once it gets charged. Changing stations and turning it off. You can read more about the Wind Up Universal TV Remote at the Gizoo Website  and it retails for about £20 or $38.

Warner to Introduce Cheaper Blu-ray Disks

    Tags: ,

Blu-ray DiscIf it's not expensive enough to set yourself up with a nice little blu-ray disc player you still have to shell out a pretty penny to buy the movies themselves. Warner has announced that this fall they will offer some discounted prices on select titles. A step in the right direction for sure. Consumers can expect to pay between $17 - $20 which may still be a little more expensive than your average DVD but much better than the $30 that they now cost. I don't really have a list of titles as of yet but I would assume that the lot would consist of older titles as well as some new ones. Stay tuned.

Pioneer Plans to Launch Blu-Ray Recorders

    Tags: ,

Japanese electronics giant Pioneer has said it plans to work with Sharp to offer Blu-ray recorders on the Japanese market by the end of 2008, hoping to latch onto a growing market as consumers move past the so-called "format war" between HD DVD and Blu-ray. Sharp already offers (pricey) Blu-ray recorders, and is a major investor in Pioneer. According to estimates from the Fuji Chimera Research Institute, the market for Blu-ray recorders in Japan is expected to explode between now and 2012, growing to some 3.6 million units a year. Pioneer hasn't announced any price ranges, feature sets, or target sales figures……

Their new wifi internet radio will give you access to over 11,000 internet radio stations world wide. I have a hard enough time with the 100+ stations in Sirius let alone over 10,000 of them. The coolest feature is that it doubles as an alarm clock so you can wake up to almost anything you want to with that kind of selection.
