Microsoft Pledges Windows XP Support Through 2014

Tags: ,

WinxpLooks like good news for WinXP users. Microsoft has pledged to keep supporting the soon to be retired software package through to 2014. That's a full 13 years after the operating system was initially released. Microsoft senior VP Bill Veghte has promised that they will provide security patches "and other critical updates" for Windows XP until April, 2014. That's great news because I couldn't even imagine being without my XP.

It also seems MS is supporting program that allows users to down grade their current version of Vista to XP. Apparently in their liscence agreeement if you purchase one version of their software you are allowed to use a previous version.

Windows XP SP3 Delayed

Tags: ,

Windows XP SP3Last week I reported that Windows XP SP3 would be released today but it looks like those plans have fell through. The release has been delayed by Microsoft Corp. citing compatibility issues between the software and its point-of-sale application for small and medium sized businesses. Microsoft has found compatibility issues  in an application called Microsoft Dynamics RMS so it is holding off the update until it can get those sorted out. After reading a couple of stories I am still unclear if the update is being held off to everybody or to just certain networks using RMS. Time will tell.

Windows XP SP3

Tags: ,

Windows XP SP3Windows XP SP3 (SP3) was released yesterday to industry and Mircrosoft plans to make it available to the general public on April 29th. We will be able to get it via Windows Update. Some of the features will include updates to both IE 6 and IE 7 and will also include all other fixes and updates prior to SP3.  XP SP3 includes Network Access Protection (NAP), Microsoft's NAC-like security technology that's also built into Vista and Server 2008; 'keyless activation,' a time saver that allows IT administrators to install SP3 without entering product keys for each copy; and detection of so-called 'black hole' network routers that interfere with network performance.

Petition to Keep Windows XP

Tags: ,

Windows XPIt's truely a sad time in our lives, Microsoft is planning to pull Windows XP off the shelves this June. Fans of the six year old operating system have started an internet petition to save their favorite software. The Save XP Online Petition has gathered more than 100,000 signatures since its inception in January of this year. A quick look at their sute shows 153,000+. Please do your part and show your support for XP by signing the petition online and try to help save XP. It's what this blogger uses and has no plans on going to Vista. Remember they can't just stop supporting it, too many companies just can't make the switch to Vista because of compatibility problems.
