Real Thumb USB Drive

Why I am at it here is another thumb drive from USB Real Thumb Drive. Doesn't it look cool stickign out the side of the laptop?  Remember that thumb-shaped USB drive from Solid Alliance that was all over the blogs last year? A new model with twice the amount of storage capacity is now available.

The design for this updated version looks pretty much the same as the original one from 2007, but the built-in flash memory is now 2 gigabytes large instead of 1GB.

Tag:

USB Thumb Drive Bottle OpenerWhat's the point of carrying around a thumb drive with you all day if it can only store your data? TrekStor feels your pain and have come out with a USB thumb drive that can also open bottles. You can also connect to your key chain for safe keeping. So if you are out slugging beers and need to show somebody your photos you can do both.

It's not the first thumb drive with a bottle opener released but the advantage with the new stylish combo from TrekStor is that it’s available in sizes ranging from 1GB up to 16GB.

The Trekstor has data transfer speeds of 25 MB/s and 12 MB/s, and is compatible with Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Mac OS X, Linux, and Kernel 2.6x. You should be able to get the 1GB version for about $10, and the 16GB version for about $71.

SanDisk SD WORM Card

Tag:

sandisk-sd-wormWorms aren’t exactly positive stuff when it comes to the world of computing, but SanDisk has decided to name its latest SD card as the SD WORM card. The main reason behind the acronym? WORM stands for Write Once Read Many, and will target professional uses including police investigations, court testimony, electronic voting and other applications where it is imperative that data files must be protected from alteration or deletion at all costs. After all, it is much easier to modify analog recording media such as film and audio tape (which are going the way of the dodo by the way, if they haven’t yet done so already), leading to a rise in demand for a suitable solution where digital devices are concerned. Unfortunately, standard rewritable memory cards do not live up to legal requirements to prevent data tampering, hence the need for the SanDisk SD WORM card.

HP Ships Infected USB Drives

Tags: ,

HP has admitted that they have shipped a USB hybrid flash-floppy drive that came infected with malware. The infected HP USB Floppy Drive Key is a combination flash drive and compact floppy drive made for their ProLiant Server line. They believe that they drive was installed at the factory. Oddly enough the announcement was made on the same day that HP offered "secure" online storage to it's customers for $5 a month.

The worms have been identified as W32.Fakerecy and W32.SillyFDC by anti virus programs. The worms spread themselves to mapped drives or removable systems and affect all Windows systems prior to Vista.
